Personal Taste 2010, a selection from my new interactive work from SWEAT
It's been an exciting start to 2011 with two exhibitions opening in the next two months.
ASSUME NOTHING, opens at the Cultural Centre Francesca Bonnemaison in Barcelona on February 24th - April 14th. This has been organised by Cris Antona the director of Ekrea who saw the book and the exhibition in Christchurch. The photographs have been printed as large canvas banners and Kirsty MacDonald's films and the wall text will be translated into Spanish and Catalan.
My latest work SWEAT is opening at Mark Hutchins Gallery, 216A Upper Willis Street Wellington on March 9th- April 2nd.
It's part of the ASIA PACIFIC OUT GAMES ARTS FESTIVAL.
KISSING BOOTH an interactive performance event is on Wednesday March 16th 6-8.30pm. The gallery will be transformed into a theatrical photographic kissing booth where I will photograph couples and the selected images will be viewed in the gallery later that night.
SWEAT has been a lot of fun to create, the participants were all amazing and so open sharing their intimacy. It is both a celebration and a challenge of queer sexuality allowing the viewers to participate and contribute to the art work. It is a threesome between photography, performance art and psycho-social experiment. I want to set up a tension between visual consumerism and self reflection, encouraging the viewers to ask questions of their own judgments and sexuality.
